I work slowly and on foot, usually with one lens, and I wait: for the first lamps to come on in a northern city, for the rain to cross the steppe, for a market to finish setting up. Most of these photographs were made in the hour when the light changes, because that is when a place stops performing.
I’m based in Gloucestershire, England. My working days are spent in businesses that have nothing to do with photography, which is partly the point: the camera is the one discipline that asks me to stop, look at one thing, and leave when the light has gone.
Six bodies of work are here so far. Northbound follows a journey from Helsinki to the Arctic coast of Norway in the autumn of 2026. The other five were made on one long journey in early 2023: a market in Bangladesh, the streets of Buenos Aires and Santiago, Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, and Ecuador from the Andes to the Amazon to the Pacific. More will follow.
